Legal Expert

At Cavaretta, Katona & Leighner PLLC, our unique approach means that a principal of the firm is involved in every aspect of every case. Our approach differentiates us from traditional firms, where much of the work on each case is handled by associates or paralegals who work under the direction of principals. We believe that simply throwing bodies at a case does not produce the best outcome. Indeed, we think that it typically has the opposite effect.

How? When principals are busy directing the work of associates or paralegals rather than doing that work themselves, they tend to be less clear about the facts and direction of a case. Instead of doing their own research, reviewing documents or attending a deposition, they rely on the work of an associate or a paralegal, who may not have the experience to recognize an important or critical piece of information or to understand the nuances of a case. The work of the associate or paralegal may be perfectly acceptable – or it might be flawed – but the uncertainty produced in the mind of the principal by second-hand knowledge may well be the difference between winning and losing a case.

Located in the heart of beautiful downtown San Antonio, Texas, our practice is centrally located to service all of Bexar and surrounding counties. We are centrally located near major finance, technology, medical and business centers. We are proud to be on San Antonio's famous Riverwalk and within walking distance of the Bexar County Courthouse.

The court system in Bexar County is different than in other Texas counties, and knowledge of the local landscape is critical. We've seen the befuddled looks on the faces of many of our esteemed visitors from other cities. The central docketing system is a bit different from the court assignment system in most other counties and, quite frankly, our visitors feel as if they are constantly running uphill.

Litigation in the two Probate Courts presents similar challenges to those lawyers who are not familiar with the legal procedures unique to those courts. If your venue is in Bexar County, engage us to guide you through the system. Of course, we also handle probate and litigation matters, throughout Central and South Texas, including counties from Atascosa to Bandera, Comal, Gillespie, Guadalupe, Hidalgo, Jim Wells, Kendall, Kerr, Kimble, Medina, Nueces, San Patricio, Travis, Uvalde, Val Verde, Victoria, Webb and Zapata Couties. A full list of counties served by our lawyers can be found under the tab "Counties Served".

All of our lawyers are licensed to practice in Federal Court (Western District of Texas) and some are also licensed to practice in the Southern District of Texas, the Fifth Circuit Court of Appeals and the United States Supreme Court.

Experienced

Trial partners in today's traditional law firms typically have brought a case to trial once or twice…maybe even three times. Each of our trial lawyers has at least 15 years of trial experience. That means we know how to prepare cases for trial, we know how to get facts into evidence at trial, and we know what works in front of a jury. We have done it before and we have been successful; we have years of experience, in both State and Federal courts throughout Texas.

But as willing and able to try your case as we are, we also understand that litigation often affects the client in different and greater ways than it does the attorney. Our knowledge and experience also helps us know when to advise you to settle. Because we know the journey represented by a trial, we know how and when to guide you to the proper destination, in or out of court.
